Anxiety & Stress
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy in New York City. CBT helps you identify the thought patterns fueling your anxiety, develop concrete coping strategies, and gradually face the situations you've been avoiding. Whether it's generalized worry, social anxiety, or performance-related stress, our clinicians use proven techniques to help you regain control. Learn more about anxiety treatment →
Depression
Depression can make even the simplest daily tasks feel overwhelming. CBT for depression focuses on breaking the cycle of negative thinking and behavioral withdrawal that keeps you stuck. Through structured sessions, you'll learn to challenge distorted thoughts, re-engage with activities that bring meaning, and build momentum toward feeling like yourself again. OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors that can consume hours of your day. Our clinicians use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard within CBT for OCD, to help you gradually face your fears without relying on compulsions. Learn more about OCD treatment →
PTSD & Trauma
If you've experienced a traumatic event, CBT can help you process what happened without being controlled by it. Our clinicians use trauma-focused CBT approaches, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE), to help you make sense of your experience, reduce avoidance behaviors, and reclaim your sense of safety. Phobias & Panic Disorders
Phobias and panic attacks can feel debilitating, but they respond exceptionally well to CBT. Through gradual exposure therapy and cognitive restructuring, you'll learn that the situations you fear are manageable and that panic, while deeply uncomfortable, is not dangerous. Most people see meaningful progress within 8 to 12 sessions. Learn more about panic disorder treatment →
Insomnia & Sleep Issues
Chronic sleep problems affect every area of your life. CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I) is recommended as the first-line treatment over sleep medication by the American College of Physicians. Our clinicians help you identify the habits and thought patterns disrupting your sleep, then rebuild a healthy sleep routine using proven behavioral strategies. Learn more about insomnia treatment →
What to Expect in Your First Session
Your first session at our Grand Central office is focused on getting to know you. Your clinician will ask about your current concerns, your history, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. This isn't a test but a conversation to make sure we understand your situation, provide an accurate diagnosis, and can create a plan that makes sense for you.
From there, you'll work with your therapist to set specific, measurable goals. CBT is a collaborative process: your clinician will teach you practical skills during sessions, and you'll practice applying them in your daily life between appointments. Most people begin noticing shifts in how they think and respond to situations within the first few weeks.
Sessions are typically 45 minutes and are held weekly. Depending on your needs and goals, a course of CBT may last anywhere from 12 to 20 sessions, though some people benefit from a shorter or longer engagement.
Why Choose CBT Collective in NYC
Our Therapists
Every clinician at CBT Collective holds advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and its related modalities, including DBT, ACT, and Exposure and Response Prevention. Our Grand Central team has deep expertise across a range of specialties. You're not being matched with a generalist. You're working with someone who has specific experience treating your condition.
Our Approach
CBT is the most extensively researched form of psychotherapy. A large-scale naturalistic study published in Behaviour Research and Therapy (Velten et al., 2025) found that over 94% of CBT patients experienced measurable improvement across 29 university clinics, with less than 2% reporting any worsening of symptoms. At CBT Collective, we stay grounded in this evidence base while keeping treatment personal and adaptive. We don't follow a rigid script. We apply what works, adjust when needed, and measure progress along the way so you can see your own growth.
We also believe therapy should fit your life. Our Grand Central office offers both in-person and virtual sessions, with appointment availability that accommodates working professionals, students, and families. Our Midtown location is steps from Grand Central Terminal, making it easy to fit therapy into your commute.
Who We Serve in Midtown Manhattan & Beyond
Our Grand Central office serves individuals, couples, and families across New York City and the surrounding area, including residents of Midtown, the Upper East Side, Murray Hill, Gramercy, Turtle Bay, Kips Bay, and commuters from Westchester, Connecticut, and Long Island. We work with adults, adolescents, and children, and with New York consistently ranking among the states with the highest rates of adult mental illness and lowest access to care according to Mental Health America, accessible treatment has never been more important.
Whether you're a professional managing high-stakes work stress, a parent concerned about your child's anxiety, or a college student looking for support, our clinicians are equipped to meet you where you are.
Investing in Your Mental Health
In New York, finding a therapist who accepts insurance can mean months-long waitlists and limited provider choices. Many of the best-trained specialists practice outside of traditional insurance networks, allowing them to offer uncapped sessions, more personalized treatment, and greater focus on clinical care.
At CBT Collective, we provide the necessary invoicing for you to submit claims to your insurance for reimbursement using your out-of-network benefits. Most PPO and POS plans offer meaningful reimbursement for therapy sessions, and our team can help you understand your specific benefits before you begin.
Choosing to invest in therapy is choosing to prioritize your wellbeing without the limitations that insurance networks can place on your care, including caps on session counts, restrictions on which providers you can see, barriers to seeing the type of specialist you need, and delays in getting started.
