More about me
Trent Codd chairs CBT Collective's Training and Credentialing Committee, setting the standard for CBT certification across the practice. He is a full Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and a Certified Trainer/Consultant in CBT, and he pairs that with a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential, giving him a behavioral-analytic lens most CBT trainers don't bring to consultation. His post-graduate training includes the Behavior Therapy Training Institutes run by the International OCD Foundation and the National Tourette Syndrome Association, two of the more rigorous specialty certifications in the field.
Beyond core CBT, Trent trains clinicians in exposure-based therapies, ACT, and newer-wave modalities like RO-DBT, and hosts group consultation and didactics at CBT Collective. He's also one of the field's more prolific writers on the craft of training itself: he authored or co-authored Teaching and Supervising Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Wiley, 2015), edited Practice-Based Research: A Guide for Clinicians (Routledge, 2018), and co-wrote Eight Principles for a Modern CBT: Re-Visioning Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Clinical Training (Routledge, 2025), work that speaks directly to how he approaches developing other clinicians, not just treating clients.
Trent also holds an Ed.S. (Educational Specialist) degree alongside his LCMHC license. Before CBT Collective, he founded and ran the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center of Western North Carolina as Executive Director for two decades (2001–2020+), then served as VP of Clinical Services for the Carolinas at Refresh Mental Health, a genuine practice-building track record, not just a clinician-who-also-trains story. Recent field presentations include a 2023 RO DBT conference talk on social signaling and a 2023 ABAI (Association for Behavior Analysis International) panel on nonlinear contingency analysis.
Approach to supervision:
Group consultation and didactics, run through the same behavioral-analytic lens his BCBA credential brings to case conceptualization, trainees get functional-analysis rigor most CBT-only supervisors don't teach.
"He provides a warm, safe, approachable, and supportive space to talk through not only clinical cases, but also professional growth and countertransference." Another trainee valued that he teaches "process interventions rather than just CBT skills or content." (Internal trainer feedback, Sept 2026.)
Certifications:
Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (Fellow, Trainer, and Consultant)
