More about me

Dr. Robert Hindman spent a decade as core faculty at the Beck Institute, where he helped develop and disseminate many of the organization's flagship CBT trainings and worked with clinicians internationally through individual and group consultation, workshops, and seminars. What sets his background apart is that he's worked at the systems level as much as the individual one: helping organizations design and revamp specialized treatment programs, not just training the clinicians inside them.

He earned a BA from Columbia University and his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Catholic University of America, out of its Anxiety, Mindfulness, and Psychotherapy Integration Research lab, where his dissertation work is specifically where the mindfulness-focused stress reduction programs below trace back to. His pre-doctoral internship at Coatesville VA Medical Center focused on PTSD treatment with veterans, and he spent nine years as Beck Institute faculty following his postdoctoral fellowship there.

His particular expertise is mindfulness-integrated treatment. He developed his own mindfulness-focused stress reduction programs, and, by his own account, personally developed three of the Beck Institute's official on-demand training programs rather than just delivering them: CBT for Anxiety Disorders, CBT for Suicide Prevention, and Integrating Mindfulness into CBT. He's also co-authored book chapters and journal articles on the topic. He's built CBT into standalone tools clinicians can put directly in clients' hands: the Depression Recovery CBT Deck (Zeitgeist, 2025), a 100-card set of cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and problem-solving exercises. Over his career, he estimates he's taught CBT workshops to somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 clinicians and provided individual or group supervision to another 100-200, a mix of in-person and virtual work. At CBT Collective, he provides individual clinical consultation and hosts group consultation, bringing that same systems-and-mindfulness lens to how clinicians here build their treatment approach.

Approach to supervision: Individual clinical consultation plus group consultation at CBT Collective, bringing the same systems-and-mindfulness lens he used to redesign organizational treatment programs at the Beck Institute.

"An excellent supervisor and incredible asset to our practice... always equipped to not only navigate any clinical situation, but provides clear and concise strategies of how to move forward." Another clinician: "Rob blends textbook therapeutic strategies with lightheartedness and fun." (Internal trainer feedback, Sept 2026.)
